Injury leave of absence

After I ran 13, I think I developed shin Splints. After a week of running through the pain, I think I will take a few days off and see how I'm feeling. It is very discouraging because I am just starting double digits on my long training days, and I feel I need to stay with it. I hope I will heal quickly and be able to continue training.

Half way there

New Record. 13 Miles!!!!!! I was happy to accomplish it, but discouraged how I felt. I couldn't go another mile, let alone another 13. My feet really hurt the last 2 miles.
Kudos to my sister KK who ran 5.5 without stopping. On her way to her first 10k.

I am going to go take some pain pills and try to be productive the rest of the day.

Longest run so far in my lifetime

This morning I capped off my week with a 10.2 mile run. I had intentions of trying for 9 but, decided to keep going. I ran it in 1 hour and 47 minutes. 10:30/mile average. I stopped at 4.7 miles to get a drink and stretch and at mile 8.5 to do the same. I felt pretty good through 8 miles then my legs started to fatigue and my feet started to hurt. I was able to grind out the last 2 miles though. Still wondering how I will ever accomplish 26.2. 10 miles was my longest run (did it last year), so today at 10.2 is my official longest.

Monday I ran 3, Wednesday 5, and then Thursday I ran with KaeLynn in Orem and went 4.4. So I finished the week with 22.6. Longest week so far. Adding up all my miles this week, I'm still 3.6 miles short of a Marathon. That's a sickening thought.

Springfest

Had a great weekend in Moses Lake (minus the pictures). Kids had a great time at the aquatic center, playing with Kevicans Turtle, The Coats concert, dollar store, and just hanging out. A big thank you to Craig and Deb for the good time.

Saturday morning Wendy & I ran the 10K. There were over 700 running either the 5K or 10K. I ran a personal best of 54:31. Wendy also ran a personal best of 1:03:53. I got second place in the Clydesdale division (fat guys).

We also celebrated Ky's 18th Birthday there. Squeesher came down from Spokane to spend some time with her. Watched the parade that night.

Good time was had by all. We got home about 8:00 pm Monday. Played in golf scramble in Burley with Kerry and won closest to the pin.

Best run so far

Monday I ran 3 miles, Tuesday 4 miles, Wednesday I did some weight training, and today I had intentions to run 4 miles and then my long run on Saturday in Boise. Just as I was going out my front door, Tom Nilsen was running by and so he was kind enough to wait for me. He said he was running his long run today because he couldn't on Saturday so I told him I would run 5 with him and then he could finish out. After 5 I felt pretty good so I kept going. I finished my longest run this year with 8 miles. I was surprised by how good I felt. It was a very comfortable pace for me at 10:30/mile. I stopped at about 6.5 miles to stretch because I was cramping a little. That seemed to help a bunch. I need to make sure I'm stretching about every 4-5 miles. I had one of those "ah ha" moments today where I think I could have ran a few more miles. The temperature was cloudy and a little on the cool side which I think helped. It is also nice to run with company, I enjoy running with Tom. Helps to keep my mind off the pain, and the boredom of running alone. I hope to cap the week off with a 3 mile run on saturday which would put me at 18 for the week. The depressing part, is this 8 mile run will be part of my short run in August and September. Oh well, one run at a time.

Junk Hunt Memories

Another fun time at the junk hunt. I needed to capture some memories before I forget. We were supposed to go to Johnson's Creek, but many got stuck in snow trying to get up there so they moved it to Immigration Canyon which is about 25-30 miles south of Grouse Creek. Kerry took his tent trailer up again and Dad, Walker and I stayed with him and Hayden.

Thursday we had a discussion in the kitchen regarding our menu plans. Wendy was giving her advice, on what we should eat. Walker, "We don't eat healthy Mom, it's the Junk Hunt!"

Friday about noon Kerry arrived in Oakley. Hayden and Walker embrace in the drive way exchanging their "I love you's".

Walker Rode up in the truck with Kerry and Hayden. On the way up Walker says to his Uncle Kerry, "I don't even know why my mom misses me, she doesn't play with me that much anyway."

We arrive get set up, play some horse shoes and have a great steak and potatoes dinner. Sitting around the camp fire at night telling stories is a favorite. Zane asks Walker if he's enjoying the junk hunt and he replies, "yes, it's nice to finally get away from the sisters for a while"

Saturday morning we had pancakes and burnt sausage (sorry guys). Then we went on a 4-wheeler trip up through the mountains where we climbed some rocks and shot guns. On the way up Walker says to me, "Dad, you're lucky to have a son so you don't have to be up here by yourself." Yes, Walker I feel blessed to have a son. Walker thanked me numerous times for bringing him on the Junk Hunt.

Saturday afternoon we played horseshoes, caught horny toads and shot skeet. Dad and I left home just before dinner.

Total Count, 99. Keeps on getting bigger. Hope Craig, Jeff, and Jason can make it next year.

Still Running

I did not run as many miles this week, but it feels like I ran more. Not a good sign. Just ran 3 five mile days. They were in a row and the last day (today) I had a low blood sugar incident. Good thing mom and dad live on my route and I was able to step in for a couple pills and was able to finish my run. Note to self, don't eat watermelon before I run. Now getting ready for junk hunt.
